The idea behind the MVC pattern is that control logic (in the example application, this is pageflow logic), view definitions, and business logic should be cleanly separated. Currently, the controller contains some business logic code that you may be able to reuse in the admittedly unlikely event that your application gains a new user interface and the domain model consists of dumb data-holding objects. The persistent classes define state, but no behavior. We suggest you migrate the business logic into the domain model, creating a business layer. The API of this layer is the domain model API. This adds a couple of lines of code, but it also increases the potential for later reuse and is more object-oriented and therefore offers various ways to extend the business logic (for example, using a strategy pattern for different bid strategies if suddenly you need to implement lowest bid wins ). You can also test business logic independently from pageflow or any other concern. First, add the new method placeBid() to the Item class:

Security Policy in Windows XP Professional refers to two types of policies: Local Security Policy and Group Policy. Local Security Policy is applied to a specific computer, and is the only type of security policy you can use on computers that are members of a workgroup. The specific local policy that you create is referred to as a Local Group Policy Object (LGPO). Group Policy is applied to sites, domains, and OUs in an Active Directory environment, and affects all computers or users that are members of the container to which the Group Policy is assigned. In a domain environment, administrators typically rely on Group Policy to apply security settings to computers, but Local Security Policy can also apply. The specific group policy that you create is referred to as a Group Policy Object (GPO).

This code basically performs all checks that need the state of the business objects but don t execute data-access code.
